DESERTED TARPON FLATS

El Pescador on Ambergris Cay

Belize is one of the world’s best kept secrets, and there is no better lodge than El Pescador on Ambergris Cay to discover its potential. The lodge is located on the coast of northern Belize and Ambergris Cay is reached after a 15-minute flight from Belize Airport, followed by a short boat ride. The lodge offers an extensive area of deserted classic tarpon flats and tidal channels with water 1.0 – 1.5 meters deep, where you can watch the fish feed and roll on the surface.

There are good numbers of resident fish between 20 and 70 pounds, but fish over 100 pounds are not uncommon throughout the year. The first big migrating tarpon come in late March and the numbers then increase again significantly between April to September.

TARPON, PERMIT AND BONEFISH

The lagoon of Frenchman’s and Hicks Cays

Belize, along with South Florida, is one of the few areas where you can sight fish for the Silver King in crystal clear waters. Although Ambergris Cay is known for its tarpon, there are also a good number of permit and bonefish nearby and even four of the five flats to wade for bonefish.

The lagoon at Frenchman’s and Hicks Cays provide an excellent environment for permit fishing.

MAHOGANY COLONIAL LODGE

Bahia del Punta Arena

El Pescador is a stunning mahogany colonial lodge on Bahia del Punta Arena just outside San Pedro on Ambergris Cay. The main house has 12 air-conditioned double rooms on two levels overlooking the pool and white sand beach.

There are also four two-storey, three-bedroom luxury villas nearby, each with its own swimming pool. They are ideal for families or groups who want a little privacy.

SAN PEDRO

Also for non-fishing companions

The lodge itself is a 7-minute boat ride from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro. Here you will find some interesting shopping as well as a couple of very good restaurants.

This combined with the excellent recreational opportunities (kayaking, mangrove tours, bird watching) in the area, make El Pescador ideal for non-fishing escorts.

EVENINGS UNDER PALM TREES

Dinner at the lodge includes a selection of fresh seafood and two other main courses per night and is served buffet style in the dining room.

Adjacent to the dining room is the fully stocked bar where you can spend your evenings enjoying the beautiful Belize sunsets and the rustling of the wind in the palm trees.
