The uncertainty that has persisted since last year about the length of this year’s season at the Gaula has still not been completely resolved. Firstly, it is now clear that the season will run from at least 15 June to 17 August. In several press releases last autumn, the Norwegian Environmental Protection Agency (MD = Miljødirektoratet) made it clear that those rivers that do not present a good plan for increased salmon protection risk a shortening of the salmon season.

The controversial board of the Gaula river owners presented a plan that did not appear sufficient to the MD because it should continue to allow the killing of larger fish. Instead, the MD would like to be cautious with the bag limit at first (1 salmon up to 65cm per day/ 2 per week or season) and then adjust the bag limit regulation when the salmon runs are strong. We can live with this regulation and there is still a certain possibility that the season can still take place in its usual length (June, July, August).
A final decision is expected in the second half of March. In order not to lose any more time for planning the coming season, you can now secure your fishing for the period from 15 June to 17 August.
We can offer you fishing on the famous rotation beats of the Norwegian Flyfishers Club (NFC) and Bridge Pool Beat (IFC) and will be on site as usual throughout the season. Please contact us as soon as possible and let us know, which week/ weeks you intend to fish and the number of required rods. Please also indicate which accommodation you would like (country house, NFC Lodge, hotel or flat within walking distance of the Bridge Pool).

Bridge Pool im Winter

The Bridge Pool in winter dress a few days ago. The largest salmon caught on the Gaula last season was caught in this pool. The river narrows dramatically here and the salmon have to stop here – one of the reasons – because it is one of the best pools on the entire river. A nice flat is available within walking distance and Manfred Raguse, with over 50 years of Gaula experience, will teach you on site what is important when fishing for salmon!
