Salmon of a Lifetime

19,95

Salmon of a Lifetime was probably the highest-profile salmon fishing film of all time by the standards of that time. But the fact that it was still able to compete with newly released films 13 years later and was officially named the best fishing film of 2014 shows all the more the class of this film. This film first came out in 2002, well before Catch and Release became mainstream.

Description

The magazine “Fliegenfischen” 3/2004 wrote about the release of the original English version:

Salmon of a Lifetime

It’s the dream of (almost) every fly fisherman: a salmon – so big, so beautiful, so heavy that you will remember it your whole life. Where can such a dream come true? Norway is still the go-to place for a big Atlantic salmon, and the Gaula is increasingly profiling itself as the ‘river of big salmon’ – the average weight in 2003 was an impressive 8.2kg!

The Salmon of a Lifetime video shows fishing on this fascinating river but doesn’t just offer big fish fights, however. The cameraman Patrick Morris, one of the leading wildlife filmmakers in Europe (multiple awards!) vouches for wonderful nature shots, perfect editing and the professionalism of the 49-minute work. The atmospheric music for the film was composed and implemented by Terry Oldfield. It is also Terry Oldfield who accompanies the film’s main character, Bernhard Cribbins, on his salmon stalks. Bernhard Cribbins is one of the most popular English actors, known from stage, film and television. Not only does he guide you through the film in a highly competent manner, but he also spices it all up with humor – it’s just fun to see Mr Cribbins trying to catch the salmon of his life on the Gaula. The fact that this very beautiful film is only available in English is therefore not a major shortcoming in my opinion. A little school English is enough to understand everything well…

The magazine “Fliegenfischen” reported on the release of the German-language version:

The film “Salmon of a Lifetime” follows English actor Bernhard Cribbins on his adventures and attempts to catch his salmon of a lifetime. His go to destination are the Beats of the “Norwegian Flyfishers Club” on the Gaula, which was founded by Manfred Raguse. There he finds exceptionally beautiful nature, with crystal clear water, embedded in beautiful forests and mountains. Every cast offers a real chance of catching an Atlantic salmon. The film was directed by John Waters and Patrick Morris (BBC) along with Manfred Raguse and the musician Terry Oldfield (Mike Oldfield’s brother), who also composed the music for this fantastic fishing film, and other salmon anglers. In the German dubbed version, great importance was attached to preserving Bernhard Cribbins’ quirky comments and typically English humor… Original text FliegenFischen, Issue 26.
