WADE FISHING & FISHING FROM THE FLATS SKIFF
Cayo Cruz
Cayo Cruz stands for almost unfished flats, great accommodation, first class fishing on permit and an unbeatable price-performance ratio. This unique destination is located on the north coast of the eastern province of Camaguey and offers a 366 square kilometer area where commercial fishing is strictly prohibited.
Fishing with a rod has also only recently been allowed, a decisive advantage with shy fish like the permit. You can imagine how little fishing pressure there is here when you know that each boat has an area of about 50 square kilometers at its disposal! So the possibilities are almost limitless.
BARRACUDA, BONEFISH, CUBERA SNAPPER, JACK CREVALLE, PERMIT, SNOOK, TARPON
The Fishing
Cayo Cruz is considered an insider’s tip for permit fishing, many experts consider this sight fishing as the most exciting saltwater fishing ever. There are few places on earth where the chance of getting the permit is better.
But bonefish and tarpon can also be successfully fished here almost year round. Bones are averaging a good 4 pounds, but during your week you’ll also hook fish up to 10 pounds. Permit weigh between 8 and 30 pounds and the last of the coveted saltwater fish, the Tarpon, reach weights between 30 and 90 pounds here! So there is also a very good chance for a grand slam!
