Dear friends,

please see my invitation to participate in two important signature campaigns below.

Kind regards, Manfred Raguse,

IFC-Weihnachtskarten-2024

The Norwegian salmon conservation organization Reddvillaksen (demands 0 emissions from salmon farms) and the international organization foodwatch (wants to stop all sales of Norwegian farmed salmon) have both started a signature campaign, for whose support I would like to ask you. Here are the links to it: https://lukkmerdene.no/  (switch to English language available) https://www.foodwatch.org/de/mitmachen/keine-faulen-fische-lachsleid-stoppen

Reddvillaksen demands “0 emissions” from salmon farms (see below for translation of the demands from the Norwegian link) and foodwatch calls for a ban on the sale of Norwegian farmed salmon. Now is the right time to start taking a massive stand against the practice of environmentally destructive salmon production by the Norwegian farm salmon companies. After a series of articles appeared in German and European media, a broader movement of environmentalists and salmon consumers is developing, which hopefully has the potential to persuade the Norwegian government to impose urgently needed restrictions on the farmed salmon industry.

Important facts are mentioned in the media. At a very large Norwegian salmon producer, for example, dead fish were to be processed as food for humans (hopefully it won’t end up on your table!). The demand for a sales ban was published in several important German-language media. Examples of impressive TV reports and articles (unfortunately in German language only, but very impressive)  can be seen here:

Your participation in these two signature campaigns can significantly increase the pressure on the Norwegian government and the farmed salmon industry. There are now some salmon farms that produce salmon sustainably in closed containers, or even on land. So there is the possibility of consuming sustainably produced salmon. The increased pressure on politics and the industry due to the signature campaigns and your behaviour as consumers could lead to the large salmon farm companies finally deciding to switch to sustainable production in the future – preferably on land.

Kind regards, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – Please don’t forget to sign at the two signature campaigns

Reddvillaksen : Demand for zero emissions in aquaculture!

The Norwegian wild salmon is in a catastrophic situation. If we don’t act now, our children and grandchildren will never be able to experience this amazing fish.

Three of the four biggest threats to wild salmon come from salmon farming; Salmon lice, escaped farm salmon and diseases. The reason for this is solely the production of farmed salmon in open cages in the Norwegian fjords. Climate change amplifies the negative effects of these threats. We saw that clearly this year when 33 of our most famous salmon rivers were closed.

Salmon lice from farmed salmon in open cages kill wild salmon

Farmed salmon escape from open cages and contaminate the genetics of wild salmon stocks

Diseases from open cages are transmitted from escaped sick farmed salmon to wild salmon

Reducing emissions from farmed salmon, salmon lice and salmon diseases is not enough. We don’t have time for more half-solutions

Only the complete cessation of emissions will save wild salmon and sea trout

Only closed salmon production facilities protect farmed salmon from painful and stressful treatments against lice

Only closed salmon production facilities are able to collect the excretions and waste and prevent them from being disposed of in the sea as is common practice for the time beeing

The waist is a resource that can be converted into biogas, for example
