In a new film we show how Mortan A. Carlsen from the Faroe Islands catches and releases the largest salmon in the entire 2024 season on the Gaula. Read Mortan’s own account:
I have been fishing the Gaula for many years and one of my favourite places is the Bridge Pool in Rognes which is managed by the International Flyfishers Club /Manfred Raguse. Over the years I had many encounters with large salmon on this pool which is located in fantastic natural surroundings with the mountain “sugar top”in the background.
Recalling season 2023, I do remember that I fished 8 days on some other beats without a single touch to my fly. After I got the chance to fish the Bridge Pool, I hooked my first salmon within only 8 minutes and landed it 15 minutes later, it was a really big fish. Back in 2024 I had to wait not long until I hooked a fish that clearly felt to be quite large. It was dominating the battle and run finally down to the tail out, making me afraid it would leave the pool. Luckily I was able to “walk the fish up” and could avoid that. It was a hell of a fight, which is in a way typical for the fish that take the fly in this pool. This cock fish was completely fresh run and we measured its length to be 117cm which was the largest caught salmon registered on the Gaula in season 2024.
We hope you will enjoy seeing the film. https://youtu.be/JvFJ1BDTwgI
