BONEFISH IN THE INDIAN OCEAN
Alphonse Island
Alphonse Island is definitely one of the best bonefish destinations in the world. 470 km southwest of Mahe lies the St François Lagoon and adjacent Alphonse Island. Alphonse Island is arguably one of the most famous saltwater destinations in the Indian Ocean and perhaps home to the best bonefish fishing in the world.
In addition to bonefish (ranging in size from 3 to 8 pounds), this area also offers three different species of trigger fish, five species of spiny dogfish and a variety of other fish species.
ABUNDANT FISH
The Milkfish
Perhaps the hardest fish to catch is the popular Milkfish, a seaweed-eating fish bursting with power that can weigh up to 40 pounds. The guides at Alphones Island have developed techniques that make it possible to catch this difficult-to-catch vegetarian.
The abundance of fish allows anglers to catch a variety of different fish during their stay.
EXPERIENCED SALTWATER GUIDES
St François Lagoon
The lodge can accommodate up to 10 anglers, two per boat. The guides are definitely some of the most experienced saltwater guides in the world. The fishermen are taken by the 40′ mothership from Alphones to St François Lagoon where the small flat skiffs anchor.
The fishing is very dependent on the tide, so the conditions prevailing at the time determine which species can be fished for.
LUXURY LODGE
Air-conditioned comfort
Combined with the excellent fishing, the accommodation on Alphonse is among the most luxurious lodges in the world. Guests stay in one of 10 air-conditioned rooms offering every comfort imaginable.
RELAX AT THE BAR
The recently renovated bar is the ideal place to relax after a busy day on the water. It also houses an excellent restaurant serving top quality seafood.
