Fishing on the Gaula has been great over the past few weeks. We haven’t seen such good fishing, with so many landed fish, on the NFC Beats for a long time. A total of 4.692 salmon with a total weight of 26.913 kg and an average weight of 5.7 kg have already been caught on the Gaula this season. A new record season is on the horizon. On the one hand, this is due to a very good run of salmon, but also to the excellent conditions on the Gaula. What the “normal” Norway tourist and the not exactly sun-drenched Norwegians themselves are not so happy about, makes the hearts of salmon fishermen beat faster. Mostly low temperatures and repeated rain caused a water level that has only dropped below 100 cubic meters / second at Gaulfossen in the last few days.
A lot of fish have been caught on the NFC Beats and for reasons of space we won’t go into too much detail, but we would like to present you with some nice catches here.
Adam Slavinski made the long journey from the USA and was rewarded, among other fish, with a salmon of 100 cm and approx. 10 kg from Beat C2. During his week Adam landed 2 more salmon of 90 and 88 cm. Adam released all fish carefully.

Charles Dickson was also successful on the NFC beats and landed this beautiful fish of 106 cm and approx. 12.5 kg on Beat BS1.

Mac Mayer was at the Gaula for the second time and after a difficult week last year he could see the potential of the NFC beats this year. In addition to this dream fish of 100 cm and approx. 10 kg, which Mac was able to land in the lodge pool, he caught 5 other fish between 4 kg and 9 kg during his week.

John Hogland, who has been coming from the USA to fish with us on the Gaula for several years, was also able to land a nice salmon at the lodge pool. His salmon was 94 cm long and weighed about 8.5 kg.

Thomas Mahnke proved that the new Bua Beat can also produce nice fish with a salmon measuring 85 cm and approx. 6.5 kg. A fish from the Bua is always something very special and that’s why Thomas was particularly happy.

In addition to the very solid salmon run, there are already some sea trout in the river. Lars Terkildsen proved that fishing at night is particularly worthwhile. In his session on Beat A1 he was able to land a grilse of 56 cm and four sea trout of 57 cm, 58 cm, 62 cm and 73 cm.
This sea trout of 73 cm was caught by Lars on Beat A1.
Fabrice Bergues and his girlfriend Nathalie also experienced very good fishing. Fabrice landed 9 salmon. Among them was a dream fish of 110 cm and approx. 13.5 kg, which Fabrice was able to land at the lodge pool.

Fishing continues to be good and the weather forecast for the next few days looks promising. The Gaula currently has a normal summer water level of 59 m³/second at Gaulfossen and there is always a bit of rain in the forecast for the next few days.
The amount of fish and the very good water level should ensure good fishing for the coming weeks. So if you have time at short notice to get to the Gaula, then you should use this opportunity. Week 31 is fully booked but there are still a few rods available in the other weeks leading up to the end of the season.
Attention: We are planning to continue the tradition of our successful salmon courses this season and were able to win over the very experienced fly fisherman, former editor-in-chief of the fly fishing magazine FliegenFischen, author of numerous articles and multiple book author Ingo Karwath, for this project. The courses will be launched in weeks 32 (7th – 14th August) and 33 (14th – 21st August 2022). The price per course week for fishing and accommodation is NOK 14,500/ approx. € 1,420. In addition, the course fee of € 250 per participant applies. During the courses, the exclusive beats of the NFC can be fished in rotation with professional supervision.
